Members
Dear Members,
It has only been a week since the wildfires began in Los Angeles County, and we collectively remain on high alert as the wind could worsen fire conditions. Many members have lost their homes and others remain evacuated. At the same time, we have also seen this town show its true nature in the outpouring of support and relief.
Solidarity is our strength and our Guild community comes together in times of crisis. Now is such a time.
To help members who have lost their home or been displaced by the wildfires, the Guild is launching a Writers Guild Member Fund with the Entertainment Community Fund (ECF) to provide grants for affected writers. A number of Guild members and the Board have already committed over $700,000 to this fund to support fellow writers. If you can support this effort, please consider donating to the Writers Guild Member Fund. The ECF continues to do incredible work for the entire entertainment community and writers can also support its general Fund here.
If you are a member who has lost their home or been displaced:
- Please contact the Guild and let us know. We will connect you with the ECF who is administrating the Writers Guild Member Fund.
- Fill out this short survey if you need specific items. We will try to match donations to get these items.
- Affected members are invited to join a Zoom meeting this Thursday at 7pm, to come together in community and share stories and resources. We will plan to have staff from the Entertainment Community Fund there to offer information about navigating the recovery process.
In addition, the Guild continues to offer expedited Good & Welfare emergency assistance loans to those affected. Please contact the Legal Department or by phone at (323) 782-4521 to request a Good & Welfare loan.
See our WGAW Wildfire Resources page for a list of important resources that we will update as this crisis evolves.
We know many members want to help out in the recovery efforts and we will be planning some member volunteer group activities. If you are interested in participating, please contact the Guild.
For members who need a space to work during the day, the Member lounge at the WGAW offices is open Monday through Friday. The hours of operation are 9am to 9pm Monday through Thursday and 9am to 6pm on Friday.
We are WGA Strong.
