Calling all guild writers! The Committee of Black Writers is seeking submissions for The Black Scene

Submission Deadline: Monday, July 24, 2017 at 5 p.m.

The Committee of Black Writers is seeking submissions for a night of scene readings about multi-dimensional black characters. All WGA writers are encouraged to submit. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Please submit a 5-minute scene in any genre for any format (feature, teleplay, short film, web series and stage play etc.). Your scene must be unproduced. Submissions can be from an existing project or a work-in-progress. You can even write a standalone scene specifically for the event.
  • All submissions must have a maximum of 4 characters.
  • Submissions can also be more than one scene, but they must be less than 6 pages total.
  • The title page should not list the writer’s name, just the title. Scenes will be judged anonymously.
  • Attached separately, include one line character descriptions and a paragraph introducing the script, its subject and how the submitted scene fits in. If this is a standalone scene, please include how you envision the project or scene that is being considered (feature, teleplay, short film, web series, stage play etc.).
  • Scripts must be WGA registered. Submit script and breakdown document as a PDF to Inclusion and Equity (Subject Line: Black Scene Submission).

The committee will cast and produce and the writer will direct his or her scene. Selections will be based on quality and castability. Please note scenes must be about black characters and not just include one. Writers may also submit more than one entry, but they must be submitted separately. We look forward to your scenes!
